A Center for Agricultural Disease and Injury Research, Education and Prevention Program funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)

The Southern Coastal Agromedicine Center, funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (CDC/NIOSH), is a integral component of the NC Agromedicine Institute. The Center extends the reach of the Institute’s activities through the involvement of partner states in the southeast, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

These southern coastal states and territories face many common agromedicine issues related to climate, crops, strong timber and fishing industries, a large migrant worker population, and endemic rural poverty.

Through a strong emphasis on collaboration, the Center draws on a larger pool of experts, increased laboratory and field resources, and greater funding opportunities. This collaboration results in wider dissemination of research findings and educational materials and programs, maximizing benefits to the farmers, foresters, and fishermen in each state and territory.
